Introducing How to be Human: a Train Body Brain Blog Series

I founded Train Body Brain four years ago, partly in response to being unable to find my then 14-year-old daughter a fitness class that she could genuinely enjoy. Coupled with reading about the growing epidemic of mental health problems facing our teenagers, I decided to create something that might contribute to the fight against our society's growing problem with mental health.

Like so many, I have had depression/low mood over the years and wish I had been taught the skills for managing difficult human emotions. In fact, I wish I had learned to manage all emotions, good and bad; as Jon Kabat-Zinn calls it “The Full Catastrophe” of being human.

I think it’s only a matter of time before schools are teaching lessons on “How to be Human”, alongside English, Maths and all the other academic subjects. Imagine a timetable with lessons such as “How To Tame Your Anxious Brain”, “ Failure Is Great Feedback” or “Cultivating Self-Kindness”, in schools, colleges, universities and the workplace.

Whether you are an adult, a child or a teen, we are all human.

If we can’t understand what it is to be human how can we manage to hold down a job, or maintain a strong relationship? This is becoming increasingly challenging given the extra raft of challenges that now exist due to social media and the ever-changing technological tempo that we find ourselves marching to.

I designed the Train Body Brain Method to support the whole human - mentally, physically and emotionally. Similarly, the ‘Being Human’ Train Body Brain blog series aims to arm you with practical tools to help navigate the more challenging aspects of BEING HUMAN.

In a series of blogs over the next few months, we will explore different aspects of the human body and brain, and how a deeper understanding of the way they work can allow us to streamline and improve our lives in a holistic way.
